Board (2016) highlight that qualitative research question revolves around why instead of how often an issue occur. On a high level, qualitative research question encompass:

1. Who is involved or doing in some phenomenon

2. How a phenomenon happens and reasons behind it

3. What is done and what kind of steps followed

4. What kind of strategies pursued

5. What are the consequences of doing or not doing something

6. Why is this an issue

Qualitative research study identify the phenomenon which require study (Board, 2016). The best practice to write a qualitative research question is the one including words like, explore, describe, discover or understand along with central phenomenon and research site. Some of the key components of good qualitative research question are:

1. Collection method of data needs to be focused,

2. Signify how different outcomes will bring new insights and

3. Question needs to be clear, simple and narrow (2016)

McGill (2018) define qualitative research question as the one comprising of how or why? For instance, how do breast cancer survivors adapt to their post-mastectomy body? Or how is bereavement experienced differently by mothers and fathers? On the other hand, quantitative research question aims on what, when and where like, when should women have their first mammogram? Or what is the relation between bereavement and clinical depression (McGill, 2018)?

One prospective area of qualitative research is to perform an exploratory study to identify obstacles faced by IT Managers in migrating towards cloud-based architecture. Forbes (2017) highlighted that organizations that have successfully migrated to cloud observed ease of access, increased efficiency, lower cost, simple administration and management. However, it is also observed that small and younger companies tend to transition easier whereas bigger enterprises take long time to fully adopt cloud. Clear strategy and business objectives are needed for successful cloud migration. Time and security are still the biggest challenges as moving data is a slow process while security concerns over data moving from local in-house servers to cloud cast doubts and fear (2017).

The central research question for this prospective qualitative research is:

How do IT Managers describe the important issues faced within their organizations hindering cloud migration?
