Growth or Growing Edge

Jennings (2010) explains growth edge as an aspect of one’s life which he or she wanted to improve over time. Some examples of growth edge could be growth of knowledge, personal growth, and financial growth and so on. Once the growth edge is identified like enhancing one’s knowledge, performance or dispositions, Jennings suggested to write the growing edge down and discuss with someone to listen their comments and answer their questions.

Jennings suggested to outline a plan to achieve growth edge by:

1. List three to five strategies to achieve growth edge goal

2. Setup timelines and activities to fulfill strategy

3. Analyze time, money, and resources require to apply the strategy and final goal

4. Monitor and measure one’s performance towards final goal

5. Set the final deadline to complete the growth edge goal

Growth edge that is being set for me is to propel in the field of data science. In achieving the ultimate goal, multiple pathways are laid down which include successful completion of Doctorate at CTU, finish specialized courses related to data science by my organization and explore hands-on opportunity with my current employer which aligns with the field of data science to retool towards the ultimate goal. Time, money and resources are planned accordingly while progress is measured using CTU grade book and personal annual goals set in liaison with employer.

In the light of CTU research and dissertation, growth edge is planned along with RES courses offered every term throughout the degree program. These RES courses strategically breaks down the final dissertation into manageable chunks like research prospectus, research proposal consisting of introduction, literature review and research method. With the ultimate goal of at least eighty citations for the final dissertation, RES courses will help developing the final list of citations by breaking down the tasks into smaller chunks. Discussion boards and individual projects throughout the degree program will also help in generating and identifying the sufficient numbers of references towards final dissertation. To further prosper in the area of research after dissertation, post-doc and publications will further enhance the research experience which can then be utilized in academic sector as well as private/public sector. Part time teaching at an online school after graduation will help in further expanding the portfolio of research while working and learning from students.
